I contacted John to arrange an appointment for me and Sarah to get a rough idea of how much we would be able to borrow for our first home so we could start looking at properties within our budget.

We met for a very informal meeting, in which John made us feel very comfortable throughout. He took all necessary information and then we left him to do what he does and find us what we needed.

By lunch the next day, I was contacted by John with a Decision in Principal (DIP) which we were both really happy with. The figure given in the DIP with our deposit added meant we could afford houses we had already been looking at. So we started looking and finally put an offer in.

We had the offer accepted on a property and that’s when we got back in touch with John to move it on to the next stage. He talked us through every stage of the process in detail as neither of us had done anything like this before.

We are finally in the property after a very quick 2 months, without John I can imagine this process would of taken much longer than it has done.

Whilst the application was in process John went away on holiday himself and took all the information with him and still made contact with us regularly with updates.

Who knew that applying for a mortgage could be so painless?! Gary Sloan helped us through several options for financing our new family home and provided great advice through the negotiations too. His job was made really difficult as the mortgage desks ran on skeleton staff through the pandemic, but we always knew he was doing the best for us in the background. Gary also helped us arrange buildings insurance through a specialist broker - this was invaluable due to the specific circumstances of the property and was definitely going the extra-mile.
